How do I edit my profile and follow people?
Your profile shows your display name, @username, photo, banner, bio, website, location and when you joined, with your posts and replies underneath. Everyone can see it.
Edit your profile
- Open the account menu (your picture at the top of the page) and select Profile, then Edit profile. You can also go straight to Settings.
- Change your Display name (up to 60 characters) and Bio (up to 280 characters).
- Add a Website and Location if you like. Both are optional. If you type a website like example.com, nook saves it as a secure https link.
- Select Save profile.
Select View profile at any time to see your profile as others do.
Photo and banner
- Select your photo to upload a new one, or select Choose a character to pick one of nook's characters. Either one saves right away.
- Select the banner area to add or change your banner. Banners work best at 1500 x 500, and they save when you select Save profile.
- Photos and banners can be JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB.
Display name and username
Your display name is what people call you, and you can change it anytime. When you change it, your profile shows that it changed, when, and what it was before. This helps people spot someone pretending to be someone else.
Your username is your @handle, and it's how people find and mention you. To change it, select Choose a different username under Username, enter a new one and select Save and continue.
- The change takes effect immediately, and links to your old profile address stop working.
- Your old usernames stay reserved for you, so nobody else can take them.
- If you change it several times in one day, you'll need to wait until the next day to change it again.
Usernames follow the same rules as when you signed up. See How do I create a nook account?
If you're verified and belong to a community with its own badge, Community badges lets you show up to two of those badges beside your name on your profile.
Follow people
- Select Follow on someone's profile. If they already follow you, the button reads Follow back.
- Posts from people you follow show up in your Following feed on Home. See How does my Home feed work?
- To unfollow, select Following on their profile. If you follow each other, the button reads Mutuals.
- A profile shows Follows you when that person follows you, and You follow each other when you both do.
Select Following or Followers under a profile's details to see those lists. On someone else's profile, Mutuals lists the people they follow who also follow them back.
If you follow a lot of people in a short time, nook asks you to wait a while before following more. You can still unfollow people at any time. To stop someone interacting with you, see How do I report or block someone?
