Getting started

How does my Home feed work?

When you're signed in, Home has two tabs: For you and Following. For you is picked for you. Following shows only what you chose to follow.

For you

For you mixes posts from communities you've joined with some posts from communities you haven't joined yet. It's ranked for you, based on:

  • The communities you've joined.
  • Your own votes, replies and saves, and the threads you open, over the last 90 days. Recent activity counts more.
  • The people you follow.
  • How a post is doing: its votes, how many different people replied, and how new it is.

For you shows posts you haven't seen first. A post you've opened, or one that appeared in your For you feed in the last 7 days, is held back. Ones from communities you've joined come back only after everything new, so your feed doesn't run out. If you've only joined a few communities, you'll see more posts from the rest of nook.

To keep any one voice from taking over, each set of 20 posts has at most three posts from the same author and six from the same community. Extra posts wait for the next set instead of disappearing.

Following

Following shows posts from communities you've joined and from people you follow, wherever they posted. There are no recommendations here. It's sorted newest first unless you change the sort.

Sorting your feed

Use the sort menu above the posts to reorder the feed you're on:

  • For you: Best (the default), Hot, New or Top.
  • Following: New (the default), Hot or Top.

Select Load more posts at the end of the list to keep reading.

Seeing less of a community

On Communities, recommended communities have a Not interested button (an X). Selecting it hides that community from your suggestions and your For you feed for 30 days.
