How do I reply to, like, save or share a post?

Every post has the same row of actions underneath it, in every feed and on the thread itself: the heart (Like), the reply count, the bookmark (Save) and Share. To start a post of your own, see How do I create a post?

Reply to a post

  1. Open the post and write in the box under it.
  2. Mention someone by typing @ and their username. nook suggests members of the community and people you follow.
  3. Select Reply, or press Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac).

To answer a particular reply, select Reply under it. The box opens right beneath that reply, and Cancel closes it. Replies can be up to 2,000 characters, with up to 10 mentions.

You need to be a member of a community to reply in it. If you aren't, the thread offers a join button in place of the reply box. Moderators can close a thread to new replies or restrict someone's replies to it.

If nook can't confirm your reply, your text stays in the box and the button changes to Retry reply. Retrying never posts the same reply twice.

Edit or delete a reply

  • To edit, select the ⋯ menu on your reply, choose Edit, make your changes and select Save. Discard changes closes the editor without saving. Edited replies show edited beside the time.
  • To delete, select the ⋯ menu, choose Delete reply, then Yes, delete this reply. This can't be undone. Your text is replaced with a note that you deleted it, and the replies underneath are kept.

You can't edit a reply once its thread has been closed to replies. If you mention someone new in an edit, only that person is notified.

Like and save

  • Select the heart to like a post or a reply. Select it again to take your like back.
  • Select the bookmark to save a post for later. Select it again to remove it from your saved posts.

You don't need to join a community to like or save its posts. Find everything you've liked and saved in Saved. Learn more in Where do I find posts I saved, liked or viewed?

Share a link

Select Share under a post or a reply, then Copy link. A link to a reply opens the thread with that reply highlighted, and All replies takes you back to the whole conversation.

Crosspost to another community

  1. Under the post, select Share, then Crosspost.
  2. Under Community, choose where it should go. Only communities you can post in are listed, and the post's own community isn't one of them.
  3. Keep the original Title or write your own.
  4. Select Post.

A crosspost is your title with the original post shown beneath it. Likes and replies on the crosspost are its own. If the original has a content label, the crosspost carries it too. Anyone who can't see the original sees The original post is unavailable. instead.

A crosspost can't be edited, but you can delete it. Replies can be shared by link only, not crossposted.

More on a thread's page

  • Sort replies by Hot, New or Top with the menu above them.
  • Select Follow thread to be notified about new replies. See how notifications work.
  • Select Reading mode to hide the replies while you read. Show replies brings them back.
  • Use the minus button beside a reply to collapse it and the replies under it.
