How do I search nook and use hashtags?

Use the Search nook field at the top of any page. On a phone, select the search icon in the top bar. Before you type, it lists Trending posts and Trending communities.

Suggestions while you type

  • Matching Communities and People appear as you type. Select one to go straight there.
  • Start with # to jump to that hashtag's page.
  • Start with c/ to look for a community by name, or with @ or u/ to look for a person.
  • Select Search for at the end of the list, or press Enter, to see all results.

Search results

Results are split into four tabs:

  • Posts: posts whose title or text contains every word you searched. Sort by Relevance, which puts title matches first and then recent activity, or by New.
  • Communities: communities whose name, address or description matches.
  • Comments: replies that contain every word you searched, newest first.
  • People: accounts whose name or username matches.

Search isn't case-sensitive and matches parts of words, so wallet also finds wallets. If nothing on Posts matches, nook shows you the first tab that has results and says so.

Search only shows what you can read. Private communities you haven't joined, and people you've blocked or who have blocked you, are left out. Posts from 18+ communities don't appear in post results.

Hashtags

A hashtag links your post to a page that gathers every post with the same tag, across all communities. To add one, type # and a word in the body of your post, for example #defi. You can use up to 5 in one post.

  • Hashtags can use letters, numbers and underscores, and need at least one letter.
  • A hashtag starts a line or follows a space. A hyphen ends it, so #web-design tags #web.
  • Capitals don't matter: #DeFi and #defi are the same tag.
  • If you edit a post, its tags follow the new text.

Select a hashtag in any post to open its page. It lists posts with that tag from communities you can read, newest first. Guests can open tag pages too.

Hashtags in replies are links, but they don't add the thread to that tag's page. Only the author's own post decides its tags.
