Getting started

How do notifications work?

Notifications tell you when people interact with you and your posts, and when something changes in your communities. You'll find them in Notifications.

What you're notified about

  • Replies: replies to your posts and comments, and new replies in threads you follow.
  • Mentions: when someone mentions your @username in a thread or reply.
  • Likes and saves: when someone likes your post or reply, or saves your post.
  • New followers: when someone follows you.
  • Community activity: membership requests, invitations and changes in your communities.
  • Moderation: review queue activity and moderation decisions.

Similar activity is grouped together, for example several people liking the same post.

Following a thread

You automatically follow threads you post and threads you reply to. To follow any other thread, select Follow thread on the thread's page. To stop, select Following again.

Reading and clearing notifications

  • The number on the bell at the top of the page shows how many are unread. On phones, it's on the Alerts tab.
  • Opening a notification marks it as read. Select Mark all read to clear them all.
  • Switch between All and Unread to filter the list.

Choosing what you get

  1. Go to Settings and select Notifications.
  2. Under In-app notifications, turn each type on or off. Changes save as you go.

Reply emails

You can also get an email when a reply has been unread for five minutes. In notification settings, select Enable reply emails and confirm your email address. Reply emails only cover replies you have notifications turned on for.

Reply emails need an account with an email address, so they aren't available to wallet-only accounts.
