How do I join a community?
Joining a community adds it to your sidebar and lets you post and reply there. Most communities let you join right away. Some ask a moderator to approve you first, and private ones need an invitation.
Find a community
Select Communities in the sidebar, or go to Communities. You can search by name, description or team introduction, or browse three tabs:
- For you: a short Featured list picked by the nook team, communities Recommended for you, and groups of communities similar to ones you've joined.
- Popular: communities with the most members.
- New: the most recently created communities.
Don't want to see a suggestion? Select Not interested (the X on its card) and nook stops suggesting that community for 30 days.
Join
- Open the community, or find it in a feed or on the Communities page.
- Select Join. If you're signed out, Join takes you to sign up first, then back to the community.
The button tells you how the community lets people in:
- Join: the community is open, and you're a member as soon as you select it.
- Request to join (Request in lists): a moderator reviews your request. Some communities ask a question first. Type your answer and select Send request. A matching answer lets you in right away. While you wait, the button reads Withdraw request, and lists show Requested.
- Invite only: the community is private. Only members and people with an invitation can see it.
- Accept invitation: a moderator invited you. You'll also get a notification. Select Accept invitation to join, or Decline.
Some token communities ask you to hold a minimum amount of their token in a verified wallet before you can join. See What are token communities?
In some communities only moderators can start posts. As a member you can still reply.
Adult (18+) communities
Communities marked 18+ open behind a warning. To continue, you need to be signed in with a birth date on your account showing you're 18 or older. Check I am 18 or older and want to view this content, then select Show adult content. nook may ask you again later. To take it back, open the community's ⋯ menu and select Stop showing adult content.
Leave a community
- Open the community.
- Select Leave community, then confirm. If you're a moderator, Leave community is in the community's ⋯ menu instead, and leaving also steps you down as a moderator.
Your posts and replies stay. To rejoin a community that needs approval, you'll need to be approved again. To rejoin a private one, you'll need a new invitation.
An owner can't leave their own community. Hand it over to someone else first. See How do I moderate a community?
